Having the ability to carry extra equipment allows a professional guide to offer a delicious riverside lunch as well as all required safety & necessary fishing equipment to ensure a successful outing.    Drift boats evolved from two primitive boat designs, both taking their original shape around the coast of Maine: The Grand Banks Dory and the Bateau. These two designs were very stable, but very long, heavy and flat in terms of manueverability. By giving the boats a shorter overall length, and by designing a higher bow and stern to recover from large waves (rocker), the modern drift boat took its unique shape.
